About Us

Ceotha, pronounced ‘Kyo-Ha’, means ‘of the mist’ in Scottish Gaelic and was the artist moniker chosen for herself by our founder when she began designing and crafting handfasting cords in 2017. In 2021, Ceotha Studio was officially born, and our team of artisans and support staff has been growing ever since. Today, we are fortunate to run our operations from a studio in a converted barn nestled in the Pentland Hills, just outside Edinburgh, Scotland.

Our designs are rooted in traditional Celtic knotwork (learn more about the Celtic inspiration behind our cords here). When we first started, many handfasting practitioners remarked that they had never seen cords crafted in this distinctive style. Today, we are proud to say that many of our original designs have since become cherished staples within the rich tapestry of the handfasting tradition (if you're unfamiliar with handfasting, you can find more information here).

Each of our cords is made to order using high-quality, ethically sourced materials (learn more about our materials here). Almost all of our designs can be customised, and we pride ourselves on not just offering a wide range of customisation options, but also guiding our customers in realising their unique vision.

Our mission goes beyond crafting the finest artisanal handfasting cords; we are dedicated to raising awareness and providing educational resources about this beautiful tradition that honours the bond between two people, regardless of background, identity, or orientation. To further this mission, we’ve written numerous blog posts and are currently working on a short documentary (set to release in Spring 2025), a book, and DIY kits for those who wish to create their own cords using our carefully designed patterns.

Let’s celebrate love, equality, and the power of connection, one knot at a time!
